"Colton Avenue":
The Lost Photos

Sometime last year, I unearthed a virtual treasure trove...around 50 negatives of photos taken during the "Colton Avenue" sessions.  These were all taken by Josh Bains on a hot summer's day sometime around the recording of "Colton Avenue" in the summer of 1998.  Those Guys! wandered around the U of R posing for a number of interesting photos.  This same session yielded the pics used for both the front and back cover of the album.  (Unfortunately, alternate cover shots could not be located at this time.)

Here are the 31 unused photos from those sessions, not seen since the original proofs were sent to us in 1998!  To save webspace, each "thumbnail" is merely the original pic resized, so please wait for all the pics to load.  Click on a pic to see a much larger version.  Enjoy!

Lurking around Memorial Chapel.

Crowded in for a tight shot.  This one made it into the 1999 yearbook.

Alternate of the same shot.  I look very stern in many of these shots and I'm not sure why.

Trekking across the Quad.

Walking with authority.

Still trekking.

Preparing for some shots in the Quad.

Running at the camera.

Closer...

Oh what a feeling...Toyota!

We recreate a scene from "That Thing You Do!" at Ross' suggestion.

Same as previous.

Still going...

Nothing outlasts the Energizer.

The aftermath.

Exhausted.

Gathering for a "casual shot" in front of Watchorn Hall, the School of Music.

More tomfoolery at Watchorn.

It's getting more bizarre.  Teron moves in for a kiss while Robert looks like he's doing Shakespeare.

Have a pencil!

Ross gives his best for the camera.

Steve's getting loopy too.

The best of those shots.

We gather around my Devo energy dome and Ross' Powdered Toast Man hat on the Quad.  I don't remember who suggested this, but it reminds me of "Eight Is Enough."

More "Eight Is Enough" fun.

Alternate shots with the Colton Avenue sign.  Robert embraces the stop sign, while Teron looks like he's trying to clean my ear.

Teron looks like he's going to hurt someone here.  I love the befuddled look on Joel's face.

Almost good enough.

A group shot by the Casa Loma Room.  I have absolutely no idea why I am doing "the robot," though I am in my Kraftwerk garb.  Jeremy is clearly amused.

Okay, the robot thing is scaring me.  I love the look on Steve's face here.

Alternate shot of the "Colton Avenue" back cover.
